Gotta quick question

Would you be willing to use this as your ringtone?

FairSquare responds:

A bit of a strange question, but ok :p
Unfortunately, i can't put this on my phone because i can't connect my phone to my PC in any way. It's an old phone :p
But if i could put this on my phone, i would. I already put it on my moms phone and it sounded pretty cool. She has it as her ringtone now :p

But i think you should've asked this question in a PM and not in a review. Simply because this is no review of the song.

Hrm...

The piano is beautiful.

The rest of the song while a good dance song, just isn't as beautiful.

Any chance of getting the song on NG that is just the piano?

OOH! POWER!!!

I am DIGGING the power you brought out in this song. I'm assuming you kept the original vocals because they don't suck like 99% of vocals on newgrounds.

Definitely not a song for low volume.

Well done good sir.

Vibestyler responds:

thank you!

A review...

The beginning is pretty good- I really like the lead synth right at :50, it's strong, and full of power.

The break around 1:45 is great- the growing complexity from beginning to end was great, especially with the subtle reintroduction of the melody underneath. It transitions GREAT into the part directly after.

Definitely around 2:20 deserves mention- the transition to 3:10 could have been more powerful if it jumped directly to the more powerful synth like the one from :50- draw out that powerful synth back for longer!

Transitions, transitions, TRANSITIONS

There are a lot of things that are very good about this song- it is complex, it is different ending than it is beginning, and I don't have any glaring complaints that make it bad to listen to.

However, musically, it seems scattered. This is almost more of a techno song than a trance because the builds do not exist, and the transitions need work.

This is close to be dance-worthy.

Puba00 responds:

Yeah thanks for the response. Tbh I pretty much just threw this song together in like 3 hours. When i get time ill finish it and add in transitions and build up. Thanks a lot again.

Ugh yes, TOO MUCH LEFT SPEAKER

I agree with whoever below said it's panned wrong.

Polished

Most of my thoughts from the original still stand. Although the rebalanced instruments and new parts helps the song to sound more professional, it's still not quite there.

Builds man, builds

Okay, so at :30 to :50, it was great. The bass had really kicked in, and around 1:04, that was great too.

But then, it didn't build past that. I mean, a couple of short breaks at 1:36 and at 2:24 you have kickass snares (can't think of the appropriate term at the moment, that's the closest I can think of) rocket in-

And then it's back to the same line that we heard right at the beginning. The energy stays the exact same. You could have punched up the tempo or the volume easily, but it stays flat. Where's the anger? The kickass bass that starts at :30?

Don't get me wrong, it has the makings of an epic song, but it really isn't more than a 6/10 for epicness. Seriously, why wasn't there a massive punch right at 2:43? Without lower lows and higher highs, the strongest moments in your music don't look any different than the weakest.

Trance is a good genre for looking at builds as it encourages builds. Paradoxial March By Gravey might also be a piece worth looking at- he has epic covered.

KroweMusic responds:

I see what you are talking about. But then again, this is my first song in this genre, so I'm not too worried. Thanks for the advise!

And in the Onyx tower...

Later, when speaking to Kheledon, you can hear the original song playing just barely there (if I remember- I haven't played Dark Alliance for ages).

Sad part being, that small bit of plot right in the tower connecting the tavern to the tower was the only real plot in the game once the first act was over.

VGSongbird responds:

yes it did play... I think.. it's been a while for me too ;)

Thanks for the 8! ^_^

Fuck Lyrics

Listen to the Stork Theme by Atomic Bitchwax and try to tell me that it could be improved with lyrics- because it can't. Seriously. Instrumental songs can be much more powerful than any songs with lyrics.

gOrc responds:

Of course they can, lyrics always punch the instrumental progressions in the back and nobody listen to the little details in riff and melody anymore! thanks for the review.
